Driving Rural Development
These Tegemea-branded projects are designed to drive inclusive rural development by unlocking the economic potential of agriculture, aquaculture, and agro-processing.
By creating value chains around honey, coffee, milk, eggs, fish, and mineral water, Tegemea Holdings will stimulate local production, encourage entrepreneurship, and increase household incomes—particularly in underserved rural areas. The initiative places a strong emphasis on supporting women and youth, offering them training, employment, and ownership opportunities across farming, processing, packaging, and distribution. Through cooperatives, contract farming, and skills development programs, women will gain more control over productive assets, while youth will be empowered to engage in modern agribusiness rather than migrating to urban centers in search of work. Ultimately, these ventures will generate sustainable employment, enhance food security, and foster self-reliant communities, aligned with the broader vision of equitable economic transformation.
Our Locations
The Tegemea projects are strategically located in two distinct regions of Uganda—Buhweju (Buhunga Subcounty) in western Uganda and Bulemezi (Kinyogoga Subcounty, Nakaseke District) in central Uganda—each offering unique ecological and agricultural advantages.
Buhweju
The Tegemea projects are strategically located in two distinct regions of Uganda—Buhweju (Buhunga Subcounty) in western Uganda and Bulemezi (Kinyogoga Subcounty, Nakaseke District) in central Uganda—each offering unique ecological and agricultural advantages. In Buhweju, the landscape is characterized by lush green hills, dense natural vegetation, and fertile valleys, enriched by a network of perennial rivers and streams. This area enjoys cool temperatures and benefits from gravity-fed irrigation systems, which significantly reduce the cost of water use while ensuring consistent supply for crops and livestock. These conditions make Buhunga ideal for producing high-quality coffee, organic honey, matoke (bananas), and fish, all thriving within the region’s rich ecosystem.
Bulemezi
In Bulemezi, particularly in Kinyogoga Subcounty, the terrain features expansive grasslands and savanna vegetation, offering an excellent environment for cattle and goat farming, as well as beekeeping. Despite its semi-arid climate, the area has been equipped with small-scale irrigation systems that support fodder production, water harvesting, and resilient agriculture practices, ensuring sustainable productivity even during dry spells. In both locations, irrigation plays a key role in stabilizing yields, enabling year-round agricultural activity, and strengthening the region’s capacity to adapt to climate change. Together, these sites allow Tegemea Holdings to demonstrate how place-based, climate-smart agriculture can transform rural livelihoods and promote sustainable economic growth.
